Kosovo Makers League – Round 1
On May 9, 2018, the Kosovo Leadership Academy participated in Kosovo’s first ever robotics competition. It was round 1 of 5 rounds within the Kosovo Makers League. The Kosovo Makers League is a robotics competition league (very similar to a futbal league) organized, hosted and supported by Bonevet — a non-profit community center where people gather to share resources and knowledge, work on projects, network, and build. The competition is comprised of grades 1-5 and 6-9 from over 50 public and private schools around Kosovo.
Bonevets purpose for the league is to create a positive and healthy atmosphere where children and young people will compete by solving a “complex mission” with the help of the robot.
Their main goal is to inspire kids to be more enthusiastic about science and technology, and especially to encourage kids to work in a group, thus developing critical thinking and solving problems creatively.
The platform being used for the competition is the the mBot educational robot and the mBlock programing language.
Students were required to program their individual robots to respond to a pressed button with lighting the onboard LEDs purple, emitting a 1 second tone and to program the line following sensor to follow a black line course.
It was a great experience and we had fun together. We have learned a lot about coding over the last several weeks and anxious to prepare for the next round of competition in mid-June.
